Use your own tracking domain
In short
On Growth and Scale, the open and click links in your emails can use your own address, such as track.yourcompany.com, instead of SendPath's shared link domain. It takes one DNS record.
What it changes
Open tracking (when you turn it on) and click links use your domain. Unsubscribe links always stay on SendPath's link domain, so they keep working whatever happens to your DNS. Nothing here promises where your email lands.
Before you start
- Your workspace is on Growth or Scale. Starter and the free trial don't have it.
- You are an owner of the workspace.
- You own a domain and can add DNS records to it.
- You use a subdomain such as track.yourcompany.com. Your main domain (yourcompany.com), an IP address and SendPath's own domains can't be used. One domain per workspace, and one workspace per domain.
Set it up
- Step 1: Open Settings, then Tracking domain.
- Step 2: Type the subdomain and click Save.
- Step 3: At your DNS provider, add one
CNAMErecord: the name is the address you typed, and the value iscustomers.sendpath.ai. See Where to add records. - Step 4: Click Check again, or wait. SendPath sets up the security certificate itself. It usually takes a few minutes once your record is visible; some DNS providers take an hour or more. SendPath rechecks every hour, and the page rechecks every minute while it is open.
What the status means
- Waiting for DNS
- What it means: Waiting for your DNS record: customers.sendpath.ai. Until it is found, new emails use SendPath's shared link domain.
- Active
- What it means: Your record is found and the certificate is ready. New emails use your domain for open and click links.
- Needs attention
- What it means: Something broke, for example your DNS record was removed. Add it again, then click Check again.
If something changes
- Until it is Active, or if you remove the record, new emails use SendPath's shared link domain. Unsubscribe links always keep working. Open and click links in emails already sent use your domain, so keep the record in place while those emails matter: removing it stops those links.
- Click Remove to go back to the shared domain for new emails.
- An address that never gets its record is released after 7 days. You are told in the app.
- If the workspace drops below Growth, the domain stops being used for new emails at once, and it is removed after about 30 days.
