Switching from another tool
In short
Bring your opt-outs first, then your lists, mailboxes and emails. Mailboxes that were already sending well can skip the slow start of warm-up.
Move over in 7 steps
- Step 1: In your old tool, export your contact lists, and the addresses that unsubscribed, bounced or asked not to be contacted. Most tools export them as CSV files.
- Step 2: Import the opt-outs first: on Suppressions, click Import and paste the addresses (or the first column of the CSV). Nobody who opted out will be emailed again. See Suppressions.
- Step 3: Import your lists on Contacts and give each column a type; every column you keep becomes a variable. See Import a list.
- Step 4: Connect your mailboxes on Senders. For a mailbox that has been sending well, tick It's already warmed up so warm-up skips its slow start. See Connect a mailbox.
- Step 5: Recreate your emails as templates, or straight in a campaign's Editor. A designed email can be pasted into the HTML code view as it is. See Write your emails.
- Step 6: Verify your lists, even if your old tool did: SendPath only emails addresses it has checked. See Verify your lists.
- Step 7: Launch at a low daily limit and raise it over a week or two, so mailboxes and lists settle in. See Sending rules.
Good to know
- Your DNS records stay as they are: the same mailboxes send through the same providers.
- Pause or end your campaigns in the old tool before launching here, so nobody gets the same email twice from two tools.
- Variables are written
{{first_name}}. If your old tool wrote them differently, change them in the editor; the editor warns about any variable the list doesn't have. - Turn on warm-up for every mailbox, even warm ones: it keeps watching where their mail lands, and campaigns follow it. See How placement affects your campaigns.
If something's wrong
- An import says some addresses are invalid.
- Those rows aren't email addresses (a blank cell, a name in the email column). They're skipped; the rest import.
- A campaign won't start after moving.
- Usually the list isn't verified yet, or there's no test email. The Launch panel lists what's left. See The pre-send gate.
